Cathy's 'Black bear blue heart' helped a group in New Jersey in the United States portray the idea that black bears are NOT viscious man-eating monsters, but have the mind of prey. They are afraid of us! Cathy explains, 'Our urban areas have many bears so this piece helped to say, don’t be afraid, call us to help the bear, don’t hurt the bear! I created the bears with more human eyes so people could identify with the bears and stop to think before instantly becoming scared. Our media often portrays bears as blood thirsty but in reality they only want to survive, just like we do.'
