Jo Hanna

Karuah, NSW Australia

In 2013,  after becoming aware of the treatment of farm animals in the meat, dairy and egg industries via social media, Johanna became a vegan at age 61. She regrets not “waking up” much earlier!  Having been making art most of her life, mainly portraits of children and pets, she also likes to draw and paint cute baby farm animals and beautiful wildlife to draw attention to and help spread awareness about animal cruelty to both farm animals and wildlife.  Graphite and pastels on paper and pastel boards are her favourite media but she also likes to work on canvas with acrylics. Art is a great way to communicate. Jo Hanna wants to show people that farm animals are as cute, intelligent and beautiful as their pets. She hopes they will make the connection and ask themselves: “Why do I love one animal and eat the other?”

To quote Phillip Wollen: “When we suffer, we suffer as equals and in their capacity to suffer, a dog, is a pig, is a bear, is a boy.”

Available for commissions.
