PRINZESSIN LEILA
Nicole Montaperti (Austria)
acrylic and oil on canvas, 50 x 70cm
”Leila was a stray kitten. I adopted her in 2012. She is the sweetest, prettiest and funniest cat I know, and I love her like my daughter. I think she has a happy and safe life”.

SERGIO & VAL: A LOVE STORY FOR THE AGES
Beth Lily Redwood (USA)
digitally enhanced photograph: 8,5 x 11 inches
“If ever there was a love story for the ages, it would be the classic tale of Sergio and Val – two lonely souls whose hearts healed from all that was hurting when they were brought together at Out to Pasture Sanctuary in Oregon, USA. Shy Sergio was grieving the loss of his best friend, a horse, when Val, a vivacious miniature donkey, joined the sanctuary family. Val was the last donkey at a breeding operation, and she too was lonely. Delightful little Val was so full of love, trust and enthusiasm for life that Sergio let her heal his aching heart. He soon joined her in welcoming visitors to the sanctuary, calling out their “hellos” across the pasture, and the two of them spent every moment side-by-side.
With their beautiful, loving hearts, Sergio and Val remove any doubt that nonhuman animals experience and share the same essence of love as humans. How they saved each other when two lonely souls came together is truly a love story for the ages. May all donkeys be happy, free from harm and treated with kindness.
GOLDEN BUDDHA CAT
Karen Fiorito (USA)
paper and ink, 20 x 24 inches
”Golden Buddha Cat is a hand printed 6-color serigraph on rag paper honoring my orange tabby Buddy. It represents my cat as a laughing golden buddha with a Tibetan Medicine Prayer Flag in the background. This symbolizes my prayer for him for long life and prosperity”.

THE BURDEN OF INNOCENCE
Mellissa Bushby (South Africa)
charcoal and graphite, 12 x 12 inches
”I love donkeys, and often feel such horror at the abuse they suffer. They are gentle, patient beings who have carried humanity’s burdens with nothing but grace, yet so often bear our cruelty in return”.
FRIENDS
Sally Rumball (UK)
acrylic and ink of paper, 21 x 29cm
”Portrait of my cousin’s dog and my cat, both rescues, found in awful condition in poverty-stricken neighbourhoods. The dog is attentive and focussed, the cat is a blur, constantly moving”.

HIDING PLACE
Bridget Iriving, (UK)
Charcoal and red pencil on paper, 29.7 x 21cm
”A cat finds refuge, a hiding place, a safe, warm space where he can sleep. Created in support of War Paws, this drawing recognises the animal victims of war and how much they too need peace”.
ISABELLE AND HONDO
Lisa Goldberg (USA)
acrylic on canvas, 11 x 14 inches
”When I learned that War Paws works to rescue donkeys, I was moved to paint a pair of donkeys for the calendar, based on the two I met last winter at Santuario de Karuna in New Mexico. Hondo and Isabelle had suffered from abuse and neglect in their former lives but happily found their way to the sanctuary where they became best friends. Both were so friendly and affectionate with each other, and with people.
Sadly, Isabelle passed away just earlier this week which makes this painting that much more meaningful. I dedicate to her, and to Hondo who will miss her so much. With huge gratitude to Santuario de Karuna for giving these two a second chance at life, and to War Paws for giving a second chance to so many donkeys who have endured unbearably harsh conditions”.

TYSON
Katrīna Tračuma (Latvia)
acrylic markers on canvas board, 14.8 x 21cm
”Portrait of a family members dog Tyson – who is a rescue, now living his best life in Spain”.
KIBA HALLOWEEN
Denise Hutchins (USA)
ink, markers and coloured pencil, 11 x 8.5 inches
”This illustration was originally created as a Halloween greeting card. It features my black cat, Kiba, enjoying the wonders of an autumn pumpkin patch. Kiba has since passed away, but I hope his sweetness and joy will still touch the heart of every human who views this image, spreading positivity and goodwill wherever he goes”.

X-MAS KISS
MariaTiqwah (Netherlands)
soft pastel and watercolour, 14.5 x 21cm
”These are two stray animals from Istanbul. I made this drawing in aid for the animals”.
