Helen Barker has been a creative all her life, living vegan since 1996 and using art as activism since 2016. Through illustration, painting, sculpture and writing, she aims to open up a dialogue around the speciesist views we hold in our relationship with other animals.
Particularly drawn to our use of language, many of her works seek to expose the societally indoctrinated and unjust mindset, that other animals are ‘less’ than human animals.
Helen believes deeply in the need to understand all social justice issues as overlapping under the oppressive forces of capitalism. With this in mind she sees the solidarity between all justice movements as vital in the fight for the liberation of human animals, other animals, and the planet.
